The beloved Chicago Fire character just got a promotion
There should have been all the love in the wedding episode! Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) leaves her longtime position as a paramedic at Firehouse 51 and goes on her honeymoon after marrying Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer).
It is as happy as the ending of the Chicago fire but foreshadows future tragedy for the remaining 51 doctors: Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith). Violet was a bridesmaid at Brettsey’s wedding and she did a great job making the aquarium location a beautiful place to get married, but it wasn’t a particularly fun hour of television for her.
Violet has been promoted to chief paramedic on her ambulance, which is certainly an honor and one that only seems fair after her many years of working under Brett. The problem is, the character has very little time to celebrate her promotion because the Medical Director wants to stop at number 51 and lecture Violet about her new duties.
Being strict on the job is one thing, but the Sheriff crossed the line when she brought up Violet’s relationship with the late Evan Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas).
The chief essentially threw his past romance in Violet’s face and made Violet seem like a blemish on Hawkins’ stellar resume.
The exchange feels oddly personal, and since the Chief Medical Officer isn’t someone we’ve met before, it’s clear the show is making her an enemy of Violet going forward. .
It will be interesting to see if Emma Jacobs (Caitlin Carver) returns, given her powerful position in the fire department and the complicated relationships she had with both Violet and the late Hawkins. Perhaps we’re seeing an example of the Medical Sheriff and Jacobs working in tandem to make Violet’s life as difficult as possible.
After all, Jacobs tried to steal the head medical job from Violet when she replaced Brett in season 10. Regardless, this newfound opposition to Violet is in line with what the showrunners said. Andrea Newman spoke to TVLine about the character’s 12th season
