Stellaride’s future as a couple will depend on THIS Chicago Fire episode

Fans of the couple are going to want to sit up for this one.

Remember Stellaride? The pairing of Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) has been a driving factor of Chicago for the majority of its run, but there’s been something muted about them in season 12.

Admittedly, the couple have gone through a rough patch after Severide left for the second half of season 11, and things have been quiet on the romance front for them ever since. Until now, that is. During a recent conversation with  TV Line, Chicago Fire showrunner Andrea Newman revealed that the couple are going to be facing one of their most difficult challenges yet in an upcoming episode.

Chicago Fire episode 1211 will be crucial for Stellaride

Newman’s statement was out of left field in terms of what the season 12 episodes we’ve seen have set up, but it does suggest that there are some major plot developments around the corner, and they involve Stellaride (finally)! Newman’s full statement reads:

“If Severide can overcome a terrifying crime in [Episode] 1211 and make it to the finale, there could be a major revelation for Kelly and Stella then. And that is all I’ll say on that!”

We’ve already discussed what Newman’s statement could mean for Severide’s future as a singular character, but the larger implications about what’ll happen between him and Kidd deserve further speculation. The last time there was a major revelation involving these two, it was because Severide was on the road solving arson cases and keeping the truth from Kidd.

Kidd will search for a disappeared Severide

These two do not have the greatest track record when it comes to honesty, especially when one of them is outside of the Windy City (it’s worth remembering that Kidd did a similar thing when she was promoting her Girls on Fire program in season 10). The “crime” hasn’t been spoiled by Newman, but we do know from a previous  TV Line spot that it revolves around Severide disappearing.

Evidently, Kidd discovers that Severide goes missing in the middle of the night, with only his phone left behind as proof that he was in the firehouse. Newman claims that the character will become a “warrior on a mission” to find out what happened to her husband.

Assuming the disappearance isn’t Severide’s fault (which, it doesn’t really sound like it is), we’re hoping that this episode will help to bring them closer together after what’s felt like an emotionally frigid season between them. It’ll be nice to have prime Stellaride back for season 13.
