Firehouse 51 needs a good old shake-up, and these floaters would have been perfect for it.
When Chicago Fire gets stale, the decision is usually to stir up some blatantly unnecessary drama or throw in a couple of new characters no one would care about. But there’s a much better way of shaking things up, and the show could definitely benefit from it now: returning the fan-beloved OG floaters back into the fold.
Chicago Fire fans want these five characters back, and we can’t help but agree: if someone could stir up some action in Firehouse 51, it’s them.
5. Jessica Chilton
Yes, Chili was lowkey problematic — but you have to admit, she was a great character. If she returned, Chili could have a proper redemption arc and make us happier by giving up on drinks and overcoming the tragedy of losing her twin sister. It’s not like her being fired (or her alone being fired) was a fair decision to begin with.
4. Peter Mills
Chili’s predecessor, Mills was everyone’s sweetheart and one of Chicago Fire’s best main characters. We were all seriously bummed out when he left Firehouse 51 to settle down and open a restaurant, and we’d gladly welcome him back on the show. After all, Mills was just too great as a firefighter to be running a family joint.
3. Rick Newhouse
Likable and proficient in his craft, Newhouse was a joy to have around for both his colleagues and the viewers back home. His personality alone made him a fan favorite, but there’s another reason we’d like him to return: the man left for holidays back in 2015 and never returned. We want to know what happened to Newhouse!
2. Jake Cordova
To really stir things up, who’d be a better candidate than Cordova, Gabby’s ex-boyfriend and one of the most controversial firefighters? Cordova’s conflicts with Casey and Herrmann made him quite an unlikable character, but if it’s drama Chicago Fire creators chase (and it always is), he’s the right man for the job.
1. Jerry Gorsch
Let’s not forget about those the whole community used to really, really hate, shall we? Imagine how much of a shake-up Gorsch’s unexpected return would have been! The man has climbed the ranks instantly without even serving thanks to his deeply caring superiors, so if Gorsch made use of it and made another appearance, both fans and Firehouse 51 inhabitants would choke on their foam.
