Does Hermann die on Chicago Fire? Character’s fate explored

The 12th season of the American procedural drama on NBC titled Chicago Fire, produced by Derek Hass and Matt Olmstead aired its 12th season on January 7, 2024, and ended its 13-episode long run on May 22, 2024. The show stars Jesse Spencer, Taylor Kinney, Kara Killmer, and David Eigenberg, among others.

David Eigenberg stars as Christopher Herrmann on the show. In the first episode of the 12th installment, Hermann gets injured after a bomb explosion but survives.

This NBC procedural drama has been a chartbuster for quite some time now and holds an impressive IMDb rating of 8/10. Seeing the show’s massive popularity and growing fandom, it was renewed for a 13th season as confirmed by the showrunner. The 13th season of Chicago Fire is all set to premiere on September 25, 2024.

Hermann survives on Chicago Fire

The character Christopher Hermann does not die in the latest instalment of Chicago fire although he gets gravely injured at the beginning of the 12th season. He suffers serious injuries while on a firefighting assignment, trying to safeguard Firehouse 51 from a bomb package by putting his own life in danger.

He is the unfortunate victim of a bomb explosion, and shortly afterward, he begins to have severe hearing loss.

Christopher Hermann has been one of the few characters who has been a part of all the 12 seasons of Chicago Fire. He is a veteran firefighter who also owns a bar. Season 12 ended with him asking to take over as the chief of Firehouse 51 after Boden left his post. Hermann is married to Cindy and has five kids on the show.

Hermann saves his crew and the firehouse in season 12 of the show but gets gravely injured after this heroic act as we already know. Soon, he starts having a hearing loss because he was in close proximity when the bomb exploded.

Although he loves his job as a firefighter, Hermann has to consider that he cannot continue if he is medically unfit for the job.

The decision will ultimately rest on him as although he is very passionate about his occupation, he still has to abide by the rules.

Is Christopher Hermann leaving Chicago Fire?

Fans are waiting to see him in the 13th installment of Chicago Fire, as he helms as the new chief of Firehouse 51.

Eigenberg is now 60 years of age and has hearing problems because of which he has to wear a hearing aid. After he informed the writers and showrunners about the same, they made the character of Hermann have an on-screen hearing loss following the bomb explosion, to deal with the hearing aid problem.

Eigenberg did not confirm his exit, but he surely hinted at retiring from the show in the future without specifying a date or a season. Here is what he said to several media houses about his future on the show and how he sees it:

“I may slide into my retirement here in Chicago, too….I always have a saying. In a 40-year career, there have been a lot of ups and downs with my life and things change. The bottom falls out for a bunch of years and it took me forever to get started, and jobs come or they don’t come. You hope. But, there’s no crying in show business!…”
He also declared his devotion to the show and his love and passion for his role on Chicago Fire by revealing to several media outlets:

“I love working on it. I could not ask for a better show. We get together with our crew and, I swear, almost every other day an actor will go, ‘I could not ask for a better job.”
