Chicago Fire boss teases family story developments for Kidd next season

It seems we might finally get to learn more about Kidd’s family history in the next season of Chicago Fire!

Buckle up Stellaride fans, it sounds like season 13 might be an interesting one for Kidd and Severide as their family trees branch out into new stories!

In the season 12 finale, Chicago Fire left us speechless when it was revealed that Jack Damon’s long-teased secret was that he was the son of Benny Severide. The moment left fans spiraling and with many questions about what could be coming next after the unexpected reveal. It’s clear Damon, Severide, and Kidd will all have things to work through after the reveal which is sure to create waves at 51 as others find out Damon’s connection to the Severide family tree.

There was also a hint that perhaps Kidd and Severide could soon be exploring the conversation of starting their own family after Severide seemed to hint at wanting to start a family after Brett sent the pair a photo of her daughter Julia.

Needless to say, it seems Chicago Fire season 13 will explore themes of family within Kidd and Severide’s storylines, so it makes sense that the new season might also shine a light on Kidd’s family history!

Chicago Fire boss teases a look into Kidd’s family story next season

With Chicago Fire season 13 primed to put a big focus on family both via the potential exploration of Kidd and Severide starting a family, and with Severide’s newly discovered half-brother, it seems the writers might be prepared to finally take a deeper dive into Kidd’s family tree on the show.

Way back in season 5, it was revealed that Kidd’s parents both died when she was young which led to her being raised by her aunt and uncle. Aside from that backstory, we haven’t learned much about Kidd’s parents or family, but it seems that could finally be changing next season.

When asked about whether we might finally learn more about Kidd’s parents via a TVLine mailbag piece, showrunner Andrea Newman reflected on the tidbit we do know about Kidd while telling fans to stay tuned for more on her family story.

“We established in Season 5 that her parents died when she was young, and she was raised by her aunt and uncle,” Newman revealed adding, “but there is definitely more in her family story to be revealed. Stay tuned….”

Newman understandably did not divulge much, but season 13 seems like the perfect time to revisit Kidd’s family history what with Severide’s half-brother showing up and Severide expressing a desire to start a family. With family set to be such a big part of their storylines in the new season, it makes sense that the show would finally unpack Kidd’s family history and allow audiences to further understand Kidd’s family dynamics and we’re so excited for the potential of getting to see Miranda Rae Mayo explore these new facets of Kidd next season!
